  • The power generation plant, known as Plant Ben Hill, is in the conceptual planning phase.
  • POWER4Georgians has not applied for the permits necessary to build and operate the plant.
  • As planned, the plant will be identical in size and similar in design to the recently permitted Plant Washington, located in Washington County, near Sandersville.
  • Much of the information and any statements of fact including, but not limited to, emissions and water withdrawals presented are based upon Plant Washington’s final permits.
  • For reference, Plant Washington:

    • Is a super-critical, coal-fired power plant.
    • Was designed and will be operated with Best Available Control Technologies and Maximum Achievable Control Technologies to minimize any negative impacts on the environment and human health.
    • Will provide about 850 MW of much needed base load electricity.
    • Will cost approximately US $2.1 billion to build.
    • Will provide employment to up to 1,600 workers and provide over 45,000 person-months of work, during the four-year construction period.
    • Will require a permanent workforce of about 120 to 130 skilled professionals, generating over $7.0 million in direct wages and benefits each year, during the operational phase.
    • Will generate approximately $86 to $94 million per year in employee earnings and benefits, state and federal employment taxes, county property taxes and in-lieu charges, during first 12 years of operation.
    • Will require $1 to $4 million per year in long-term, local support services.
    • Could create over 100 new spin off jobs in the county.
    • Could generate up to $1 million per year in new local business growth.
    • Could become a catalyst for new industry.
